KPHA was started in 1975 to operate a youth hockey program that would give any boy or girl from ages 4 to 17 years the opportunity to play hockey regardless of skill level. To accomplish this goal, the association operates two leagues: the House C & D League known as Tier III & IV and the Competition B League known as Tier II. KPHA utilizes both the Soldotna Sports Center and Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility rink next to KCHS, for playing games, conducting practice sessions, as well as skill development sessions. KPHA is affiliated with the United States of America Hockey (USA Hockey) Program and the Alaska State Hockey Association (ASHA).
